I will love you and me both grapples with the duality of the need for independence and the responsibility of care. These paintings delve into the different ways we create or soften our edges within our relationships, the fragile balance between autonomy and allowing surrender. They are a celebration of love towards ourselves and others.
Giulia Corradi is an artist from Italy, living and working on Dharawal Country in Bulli, NSW. Her practice explores painting on unstretched canvas and organically shaped wooden boards, creating layered works that combine acrylic paint with materials found in the domestic space, including house paint, polymer clay, pastels, and crayons.
With a make-do approach, she prioritises immediacy over technique, using materials as a way to externalise and process thoughts, and to resist the idea of a single “right” way of making art. She moves between large-scale works on raw canvas and smaller, more intimate pieces on wood, with scale shaped by emotion and circumstance.
The works take the form of tapestry-like hangings and irregular wooden forms that hover off the wall, carrying a strong handmade quality and a sense of vulnerability that invites intimacy.
